FCC Denies Stay Request on Siting, Zoning Timeframes (2/1/10)
The FCC denied a stay request from five associations on the commission’s recent order to speed up tower siting requests. Five associations filed a motion for stay of the FCC’s recent order directing state and local governments to act on requests for wireless tower and antenna siting within 90 days for collocations and 150 days for all other siting applications.
The associations included the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, the United States Conference of Mayors, the National League of Cities, the National Association of Counties and the American Planning Association. The FCC said the new timeframes will ensure a timely review of these requests while preserving state and local authority over zoning and land use policies.
