Third Georgia Agency Deploys NEXEDGE for Public Safety (1/28/10)
After several months of operation, Kenwood’s NEXEDGE system purchased by the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office has exceeded expectations for coverage and performance, according to William T. (Tracy) Neal, communications director for McDuffie County, Ga. McDuffie County has responsibility for two counties’ 9-1-1 systems, Glascock and McDuffie, and decided on NEXEDGE as the most economical path to narrowbanding, Neal said.
“We moved from 100-watt mobiles to 50-watt mobiles and have expanded our coverage area,” Neal said. The digital technology has an added benefit of increased officer safety for the sheriff and police staff using the NEXEDGE portables and mobiles, and scanners can no longer pick up the public-safety frequencies, Neal said.
This is the third Georgia agency to deploy NEXEDGE for a public-safety network in about a month.
