Sprint Nextel Asks to Stay on Interleaved 800 MHz Channels (1/28/09)

Sprint Nextel filed a request for waiver of a 2008 order by the FCC requiring it to relinquish its 800 MHz interleaved channels (809 – 815 MHz/854 – 860 MHz) in nonborder areas after March 31.

It has asked for a waiver of the requirement in 21 of the 55 National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee (NPSPAC) regions. In support of its request, the company claims it has made significant progress in toward completing 800 MHz band reconfiguration, and that a waiver would avoid service disruption to customers while facilitating a smooth transition and encouraging stakeholders to complete the 800 MHz band reconfiguration. Sprint Nextel also argues that a waiver would serve the public interest in general.
